What is proper attire for the course?

We ask that you wear properly fitting, weather-appropriate clothing, with long hair tied back. Closed toe shoes with heel are also required. No flip-flops or clogs!

What is proper tipping etiquette for my guide?

It is customary to tip your guides 10-20% per person, similar to a restaurant.

How physically challenging is the course?

Our course is somewhat physically challenging. Our guests should be in moderate shape and good health.

Is there anything I should bring with me?

You should make sure to bring any medications you may need, such as inhalers, epipens, glucose, etc.

Is the emphasis on training?

        

  YES, the emphasis is on developing riding skills in a family oriented environment. Helmets are required at all times. Trail riding is all one directional. Speed is kept to a minimum by the winding trail structure. Night time riding is not permitted. No alcohol or drugs are permitted on the property.

Do you allow children?

Rider restrictions are based on the individual as much as age. All riders, children or adult, must demonstrate their strength and awareness in the training and orientation sections before being permitted to enter the trail riding section. Children that are accompanied by a parent who’s also renting may be permitted to proceed to the trail riding areas.

What are the economics of renting vs. owning?

People that don’t own an ATV, might be thinking of buying an ATV or might just be vacationing and don’t have a practical way to transport their personal ATV are also ideal.  If you're looking  at owning vs. renting, owning includes the cost of a new ATV runs $5,000 to 7,000 plus maintenance, depreciation, cleanup, a trailer, a vehicle capable of towing, driving skill towing a trailer, a place to store everything, a place to ride, etc.

Is Hocking Peaks open year round?

          Yes, we’re open year round.  Summer, fall, winter, spring, sunny, rainy, cold and snowy, it’s all good.

Do I need any experience?

No, beginner, intermediate and advanced riding is available, no experience is necessary.

  What's provided?

Helmets are provided along with full operational instruction.  Sunglasses work well for eye protection, but we also offer safety glasses. No open toed shoes.

  What levels of trail riding difficulty will I find?

Trails include a beginner  instruction and training area that's open. This transitions into basic trail riding and graduates along into intermediate and advanced trail riding.  The trails you ride are based on your level of comfort and expertise.

Are guided and unguided trail riding available?

Yes, we'll stay with you as long as you'd like or we feel necessary.

What kind of attractions will I find at the park?

ATV nature trail riding, streams, hills, logs, rocks, bridges, scenic overviews, foliage, wild flowers and wildlife including deer, turkey, birds and yes, there’s a little mud if you choose.

What kind of ATV equipment do we have?

Suzuki and Polaris 4 stroke, AWD, one person and side-by-side ATVs.

Who’s the ideal rider?

  Ideal riders are individuals, friends, couples and all forms of group, corporate outing or special occasions. It's a great team building experience.  We can set up scavenger hunts on the nature trails that are nature based or group informational.

  What’s an ATV rental experience like?

All riders receive one-on-one attention from the trail staff. You’ll start with an orientation and training session and ride through a supervised obstacle course. Trail staff will spend as much time as needed with every rider before they proceed to trail riding. Bring long pants and shoes or riding boots. Everything you’ll need is furnished or available at the facility.

Is Hocking Peaks the only company permitted to provide ATV rentals on the Wayne National Forest OHV trail system?

         

Yes, on April 13th, 2009 the Wayne National Forest announced a temporary outfitter-guide special use permit for Ohio  ATV World, now a part of Hocking Peaks. The permit authorizes Ohio ATV World to begin renting ATVs and guiding riders on the Monday Creek, Pine Creek, and Hanging Rock ATV trail system.

What's different about riding on the Wayne National Forest OHV trail system?

          Riding an ATV on the Wayne National Forest OHV trail system is better suited for intermediate to advanced riders. The Wayne system has 3 separate regions and includes 110 miles of OHV trail system.

  What else is there to know about Wayne National Forest ATV Rentals?

     Reservations for ATV rentals on the Wayne Forest trail system are required. We meet renters at a designated Wayne Forest ATV trail head. Riding in the Wayne is bi-directional. Wayne Forest Daily Use Permits are also provided for @ $12 per rider per day. Daily ATV rental rates apply. Experience is necessary, Intermediate and advanced riding is typical. Beginners are encouraged to get qualified at our Sauerkraut Rd. Venue. Full operational instruction are provided.            Helmets are provided.

What do I need to know about Hocking Peaks bike rentals?

  Bicycle Rentals and Bicycle Nature Tours are available for riding on the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway.  Bikes are only to be ridden on the 22 mile Hock-Hocking Adena. Families, individuals, groups, associations, church groups and corporate outings are welcome. Reservations are required by first calling 740.592.2500. Bikes are located at the Inn at Rocky Boots in Nelsonville and the Holiday Inn Express, Athens. Men's & women's bikes are available. Bikes are single speed, coaster brake, comfort bikes. Water bottle holders & bells are installed on each bike. Wind At Your Back (one way bike rentals between Nelsonville & Athens) are available.
